Teaching at IRREC

Teaching

Today, IRREC is known internationally for its high quality educational program offered to students who commute to the center from a five county region. Bachelor's degree programs in Agribusiness Management and in Environmental Management are available to students with an Associate in Arts degree. Master's degree programs include Agricultural Education and Communication, Entomology, Environmental Horticulture, and Environmental Science. Certificate programs include Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Education and Communication, and Entomology.

All faculty members who teach courses for the degree and certificate programs hold doctorate degrees in their fields, or an MBA.

Many lectures taught live at the IRREC site near Fort Pierce are broadcast by videoconference technology to sites such as Milton in the panhandle; Balm and Immokalee near the Gulf Coast; Apopka, just north of Orlando; Fort Lauderdale and Homestead, southwest of Miami. The UF IRREC has become a hub for statewide education, with a more than 350 percent increase in the number of students who attend courses by videoconferences.

Students may participate in a full degree program at IRREC. Many courses are taught live by IRREC faculty. Other courses are delivered by distance education online or by incoming videoconference.

Because of the center's strong emphasis in research, many students seeking master's degrees and doctorates conduct research at the site, as part of their curriculum program.
