• 2-Foot Systems Tanks

• 2-Foot System FIlters
  • The system filters are inside of a greenhouse

• 5-Foot System Tanks
  • Additionally, there are three identical recirculating aquaculture systems consisting of eight 110 gallon fiberglass tanks. Each system is equipped with a bead filter, protein skimmer, and an ultraviolet sterilizer. 

• Brood Tanks
  • The Hatchery Building also contains six 6,000 gallon fiberglass tanks for broodstock which are equipped with biofilters, protein skimmers, and UV sterilizers. 

• Covered Tanks
  • Eight 530 gallon fiberglass tanks each have cone-shaped fiberglass covers, individual biofilters, protein skimmers, and UV sterilizers. The covered tanks are used to regulate temperature and light cycles of fish to control spawning cycles. 

• Copepod Tanks
  • 600 square feet of floor space inside the Hatchery Building is dedicated to tanks and equipment used for culture of copepods and rotifers. 

• Pond 1
  • Pond 1 is nearest the greenhouse and Hatchery Building 

• Pond 2
  • Paddles are used to circulate water and sustain oxygen

• Pond Tanks
  • Pond tanks, alongside Ponds 1 and 2, hold species 

Greenhouse

Marine species are protected inside the greenhouse structure.

• IRREC Aquaculture Demonstration Greenhouse
  • The 3,200 square foot greenhouse contains 11 recirculating aquaculture systems with over 91 individual tanks of various sizes.
  • The total water volume of the systems in the greenhouse is over 20,000 gallons. 

• Aquaria Greenhouse
  • Three identical recirculating or flow-through systems are inside the aquaria greenhouse. 
  • Each system consists of 12-aquaria (30 gallon) and each system is equipped with a bead filter, protein skimmer, and ultraviolet sterilizer. 

• Greenhouse Tanks
  • Tanks are various sizes. 
  • Water circulates continuously.  

Hatchery Building

Houses a number of tanks, a larval nursery and algae room 

• Hatchery
  • The Hatchery is inside a 7,200 square foot insulated metal building.

• Hatchery Building
  • Inside are a laboratory, office, larval culture room, an algae culture room, live feed area, and a number of culture tanks and systems of various sizes.

• Aquaria Hatchery
  • Fish larvae are spawned in tanks. 

• Larval Systems
  • Fish larvae are produced in smaller tanks.

• Walk-In Cooler
  • Algae is produced inside the walk-in cooler. 

• Algae Room
  • Algae is produced to feed copepods.

Water Treatment

Water from the Atlantic Ocean is transported to the site and treated for use throughout the project

• Water Treatment
  • The water treatment area consists of two open top 6,000 gallon tanks.
  • Inside the tanks, water is sterilized before storage in one of four 6,000 gallon fiberglass silo tanks. 
  • The entire IRREC Aquaculture Demonstration Project facility is serviced by sterilized fresh, low-salinity, and full-strength salinity water. 
  • Water can be mixed to any salinity in these tanks. 
  • The water from the treatment area is pumped to the greenhouse and Hatchery Building with a series of pumps and underground pipes. 

• Water Truck
  • A semi trailer with two tanks carries 6,000 gallons of water.
  • The truck transports full-strength salinity water from the Atlantic Ocean. 

• Generators
  • The IRREC Aquaculture Demonstration Project is equipped with two large emergency electrical generators to ensure the entire facility functions during power failures.
