Edinson Díaz Benitez
Biological Scientist II
Edinson Díaz Benitez joined IRREC in January 2021 as a biological scientist in Dr. Liliana M. Cano's Plant Pathology Laboratory. Edinson has a BSc degree in Biotechnology Engineering from the Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander, Cúcuta, Colombia.
Edinson is working on projects that include developing and validating new protocols, such as DNA-based diagnostic methods for detecting plant diseases. Additionally, his work involves collecting greenhouse and field data related to disease severity and rootstock trials. Edinson also participates in data analysis and designing field surveys to monitor and evaluate the impact of plant diseases. Data from these activities provide information for technical reports, research papers, scholarly articles, and recommendations for growers. Edinson constantly consults with researchers and other professionals to conduct appropriate analyses in solving problems and, in this way, determine strategies and recommend successful solutions.
